Arthritis can be a frustrating and debilitating condition.

If you suffer from arthritis you have probably noticed how certain day-to-day tasks, such as preparing food or opening containers, feel harder than they used to.

Arthritis can make tasks requiring dexterity more difficult and it can also impair grip strength.

The good news is that there are products available that make those day-to-day tasks easier. For example, water bottles for arthritic hands have easier-to-open lids and more convenient grips.

Let’s take a look at some of the best-designed water bottles on the market for those with arthritis.

What Are the Best Water Bottles for Arthritic Hands?

Here are my recommended water bottles for seniors with arthritis. Each of these water bottles is easy to hold onto and squeeze for less joint and hand pain while using them.

This 12 oz water bottle made by Amphipod is designed to be easy to hold, with a contoured design where the lower half of the bottle is half the width of a standard water bottle.

It includes a handle/carrying case that allows the bottle to rest neatly on your hands for ease of carrying when you are out and about, and the mouth of the bottle is wide, so it is easy to fill up too.

This BPA-free bottle is designed for athletes, but the design enhancements make it a great choice for arthritic hands too.

This is smaller than many other bottles, but easy to refill, and contains just the right amount of water for a short trip out during the day.

Buying Guide: Choosing a Water Bottle for Arthritic Hands

As you can see, there are many different designs of water bottles on the market. If you’re trying to find a water bottle that will work well for you or buying a gift for someone with arthritis, you should consider their priorities.

How Arthritis Affects Water Bottle Use

Arthritis can manifest itself in a few different ways.

It could be that someone with arthritis struggles to open smaller “pull caps”, or that they don’t have steady hands and find it hard to fill a bottle with a small opening. For others, grip strength suffers, and holding a bulky bottle is not easy.

Many people with arthritis also have other minor impairments which means that they find day-to-day tasks hard. Someone who has lost a lot of grip strength might struggle to pick up a very large bottle.

Someone who has poor eyesight might want a bottle that is completely clear so that they can easily see how full it is.

A person who is suffering from a loss of fine motor control might find that drinking from a bottle with a long, soft straw is easier than drinking from a screw top or a flip-up lid.

Find a Design That Reduces Grip and Squeeze Pain

If you are buying a bottle for yourself, think about the designs you have already tried, and the pain points you have encountered.

What would make your life easier? If you are buying a bottle for a loved one, ask them what irritates them about the disposable bottles or simple drinking bottles/shaker bottle designs they are using right now and listen to their answers.

Prices vary massively from bottle to bottle. Don’t be put off by some of the higher price tags. Remember that you are buying something that is intended to be re-used.

An insulated, BPA-free bottle with a good screw cap lid will last for many years and will pay for itself many times over compared to buying cheaper plastic bottles that crack or that have threads that become damaged.

Summary and Final Recommendations

Drinking from a water bottle that is reused time and time again is better for both your wallet and the planet than buying water in disposable bottles.

Make that one-off investment in a bottle that is easy for you or your loved one to use, and enjoy the health benefits that come with being hydrated at all times.

  1. Water Bottle

Thanks for giving the best reviews of arthritic hands water bottles I am looking for this product online and finally found your post within the discount price offer. Thumbs Ups!

  2. Hydro Cell USA

This post is really helpful for those who are experiencing arthritic pain. Thank you for recommending these water bottles!

  3. I prefer to use a Yeti cup, with the optional handle added. The lids are easier to open, both for drinking & refill. The handle allows me to slip my hand underneath it, and keeps my hand close to the cup without demanding I “grip” as much.
