Digital Calendar Reminder Display: Memoryboard's New Family Features

If you’re the one keeping track of Mom’s appointments, Dad’s pills, and which sibling was supposed to tell her what, you already know how easily an important message gets lost in the shuffle.

That’s the exact problem so many families run into with a digital calendar reminder display for seniors: important family messages getting lost on the board, or worse, not knowing whether your parent actually read that reminder about the doctor’s visit.

I’m Scott Grant, Certified Senior Advisor and Senior Home Safety Specialist at Graying With Grace, and I’ve spent hands-on time testing Memoryboard’s newest round of updates, going through the setup on camera and pushing every new feature to see how it actually behaves in real family situations.

This video is sponsored by Memoryboard, who paid me to show you how it works. The opinions, and the downsides, are my own.

Today, I’ll walk you through exactly what’s new, what these updates fix, and where you still need to pay attention. You can find my original Memoryboard demo and review here.

Quick Takeaways

  • Problem solved: Important reminders getting buried under photos and casual messages from other family members.
  • Who benefits most: Long-distance caregivers managing appointments, medications, and communication for an aging parent.
  • Worth the investment: Yes, especially if you’re already using Memoryboard or considering a digital calendar reminder display for seniors.
  • Best feature for seniors: The full-screen clock, which gives a clear, simple readout of time and date when nothing else is scheduled.
  • Biggest limitation: Read confirmation only proves a button was pressed, not that the message was understood.

Who This Is For

If you’re the adult child juggling a full-time job while trying to make sure Mom sees her 2pm doctor reminder and not just today’s grandkid photos, the pinned post feature on Memoryboard was built with you in mind. It pushes everything else aside so the one thing that matters most is the only thing on the screen.

If you’re managing care for more than one loved one, say your own mother and your father-in-law, and you’ve been stuck juggling separate logins or accounts just to keep their boards straight, the new multiple care circles feature solves that headache. One email, one app, and you can switch between boards without losing track of who’s who.

And if you’ve ever hung up the phone wondering “did she actually see that message I sent?”, the read confirmation feature gives you an actual answer instead of a guess, which is exactly the kind of affordable digital reminder system for aging parents that families have been asking for.

How This Could Help You

Managing medication and appointment reminders for older adults isn’t just about sending the message. It’s about knowing it landed.

That’s really the heart of what these updates do for Memoryboard. It’s not a totally new product, it’s a smarter version of one I already liked.

Wondering how Memoryboard compares to other senior alert systems? The honest answer is that most alert systems are reactive, waiting for an emergency. Memoryboard is proactive, designed to keep everyday communication flowing so problems don’t happen in the first place.

Does it replace a phone call entirely? No, and it shouldn’t. But it cuts down on the “just checking in” calls that can feel intrusive or even annoying to someone living with memory changes.

Can it help someone stay a little more independent longer? I think so. Being able to glance at a clear, oversized clock or read a pinned reminder without needing to ask “what day is it again?” preserves a bit of dignity that a phone call reminder just can’t offer.

Important Details You Should Know

The board itself is a 10.1 inch touchscreen display, small enough to sit on a kitchen counter or side table without dominating the room.

It needs to stay plugged in and connected to Wi-Fi at all times for the automatic update feature to work, which is a small but important space and setup consideration.

There’s no monthly fee, which matters a lot to families already juggling multiple subscription costs for caregiving tools.

Build quality feels solid for a home device, not flimsy, and the touchscreen is responsive enough for someone without a lot of tech experience.

Getting Started

Setup starts with one manual update at the board itself. You’ll swipe down from the top, confirm the Wi-Fi connection, tap the gear icon, and select “check for updates.”

As I demonstrated in the video, that first update took about three or four minutes to download and apply, and nothing was lost in the process, all existing messages stayed exactly where they were.

After that one-time update, the board updates itself automatically from then on, as long as it stays plugged in and connected to Wi-Fi.

If the board lives three states away in Mom’s living room, that first update still has to happen in person or over the phone with someone standing there. After that, though, you’re done, and future updates happen quietly in the background.

Features That Matter To You

Let’s talk about what actually makes a difference in daily life, not just on a spec sheet.

The full-screen clock is a simple, comforting feature for someone who may lose track of time or day. It shows the full date, spelled out completely rather than abbreviated, which matters a lot for someone living with dementia who may not understand “Sept” or a stray “9” where a month should be.

The pinned post feature means a critical reminder, like a doctor’s appointment, won’t get buried under a joke from Uncle Bob or a cute photo from the grandkids. When I evaluated this product, I noticed the board switched over instantly and displayed nothing but that appointment reminder until the pin time expired.

Read confirmation adds a layer of reassurance without requiring a phone call. In the video, you can see that once the reminder was tapped, the app immediately showed the sender that the message had been acknowledged.

Private post is a thoughtful touch for sensitive family situations, like planning a surprise party without a chatty sibling seeing the plans in the app. But it’s worth being clear-eyed here: the message is still fully visible on the physical board, so it’s private from the app’s care circle, not from anyone standing in the room.

Real Life Experience

Hands-on testing is really where a product like this proves itself, and I put these updates through their paces directly on the board.

When I evaluated this product, I noticed the update process required almost no technical skill, just swiping down, confirming Wi-Fi, and tapping “check for updates.”

As I demonstrated in the video, after that first manual update, every existing message and photo on the board stayed exactly where it was, nothing got deleted or reset.

In the video, you can see the pinned reminder take over the entire screen the moment it was activated, and everything else politely paused rather than disappearing for good.

I also walked through the private post toggle live, and it worked exactly as described, the sender saw a normal post while other care circle members only saw a locked card labeled “private post.”

Will You Be Able To Use It?

Most older adults will be able to interact with this board without any real learning curve, since the display is designed to be glanced at rather than operated.

The read confirmation button is a single, large tap, which works well for someone with limited dexterity or early-stage cognitive changes.

Family members handling the app side will need basic smartphone comfort, but nothing beyond typical texting or photo-sharing skills.

Always consult with your doctor or occupational therapist before making health-related product decisions, especially if vision, hearing, or cognitive changes could affect how someone interacts with a shared display like this.

Important Considerations

This isn’t the right tool for someone who needs medical alert monitoring or emergency response, it’s a communication and reminder display, not a safety alert system.

Private post can create a false sense of privacy if you’re not careful. The message still displays fully on the physical board, so anyone in the room can read it.

Read confirmation confirms a button press, not comprehension, so don’t rely on it alone if you’re managing someone with more advanced memory loss.

And remember, only one post can be pinned at a time, so if there are multiple urgent messages competing for attention, you’ll need to prioritize.

Help When You Need It

Memoryboard is sold directly through the company’s own store rather than through a third-party marketplace, which means support and updates come straight from them.

Automatic software updates mean you’re not stuck manually chasing new features once that first update is complete.

For setup or account questions, Memoryboard’s own customer support channels are the best first stop.

Understanding The Cost

There’s no monthly fee attached to using Memoryboard, which is a real advantage compared to some subscription-based caregiving tech.

Given how much it can reduce anxious phone calls and missed appointments, many families find the long-term value outweighs the upfront cost.

If you’re comparing a digital calendar for elderly family members with family notifications built in, this is one of the more full-featured options I’ve tested without ongoing fees.

Making It Work For You

Use the pinned post feature sparingly and intentionally, save it for truly time-sensitive reminders like appointments or medication changes so it retains its impact.

Pair pinned posts with read confirmation whenever the reminder is critical, that combination is genuinely one of the smartest parts of this update.

If you’re coordinating care for more than one loved one, set up your care circles early so switching between boards becomes second nature.

Double-check time zones when pinning a message for a board that isn’t in your own time zone, since the pin follows the board’s local time, not yours.

Our Recommendation

If you already own a Memoryboard, updating it is a no-brainer, these new features genuinely solve problems families run into constantly.

If you’re just discovering it, this is one of the more thoughtful digital calendar reminder displays for seniors I’ve reviewed, especially for families juggling multiple caregivers or long-distance care.

Don’t forget, GWG readers can use code GWG10 for 10% off at checkout.

If you need medical alert monitoring or emergency response capability, look elsewhere, this product is built for communication and reminders, not emergencies.

Where To Get It

You can find current availability and full details directly through Memoryboard’s official site, where GWG readers can also apply the discount code mentioned above.

Conclusion

These updates take an already solid caregiving tool and make it noticeably smarter, more private when needed, and far less likely to let an important reminder slip through the cracks.

If you’ve been on the fence, now’s a great time to try Memoryboard and put these features to work for your family.
