Panasonic KX-TGD610 Review, and the KX-TGD810 Cordless Phone That Replaces It

Panasonic KX-TGD610 Review, and the KX-TGD810 Cordless Phone That Replaces It

The Panasonic KX-TGD610 I reviewed is no longer sold on Amazon. Like the 610, the KX-TGD810 has a large, easy-to-read display, nine speed dials and a call block button, and it adds robocall and scam protection.

I reviewed the Panasonic KX-TGD610 below, but it’s no longer sold on Amazon. Panasonic’s closest model on Amazon today is the KX-TGD810, so that’s the one I point people to now.

Like the 610, the 810 has a large, easy-to-read display, nine one-touch speed dials and a call block button right on the handset. It adds stronger protection against robocalls and phone scams.

It’s a good fit for older adults who want a straightforward landline phone for the home, without confusing extras or tiny buttons.

If you’ve been looking for an easy-to-use cordless home phone for a senior, one that makes it easy to see who’s calling, reach family quickly and keep junk calls away, here’s how the 810 compares with the 610 I tested, and where it’s different.

Why Seniors Should Consider the Panasonic KX-TGD810

Easy to See, Even in the Dark

Like the 610, the 810 has a large, high-contrast display with easy-to-read characters. Its keypad lights up too, so you can find and read the buttons in a dark bedroom.

One difference: on the 610, I could turn the ringer up to 90 decibels and hear it from distant rooms. Panasonic doesn’t list a ringer volume for the 810, so if hearing loss is a concern, check it during the first week, while you can still send it back.

Nine Speed Dials and a Call Block Button

Like the 610, the 810 gives you one-touch speed dial for your nine most-called numbers, so calling family doesn’t mean digging through menus.

The call block button is right on the handset too. One press blocks a nuisance caller, and the phone can hold up to 1,000 blocked numbers.

Robocall and Scam Protection

This is where the 810 does more than the 610. Its call blocking stops robocalls before they get through, and it has a separate block for telemarketers.

It also guards against one-ring scams. That’s when a scammer calls once and hangs up, hoping you’ll call back a number that charges you. If you go to return a call that rang only once, the 810 shows a confirmation screen first, so nobody calls back by accident.

Hands-Free Calls

The speakerphone is full duplex, which means both people can talk at the same time without the sound cutting in and out. It works on both the handset and the base, and you can use the two as an intercom between rooms.

What to Know Before You Buy

The 810 comes with one handset, and the system is expandable if you want another one in the bedroom. It can be mounted on the wall, and it needs a landline.

The 610’s noise reduction, clarity booster and handset locator aren’t among the features Panasonic lists for the 810, so I can’t promise those carried over.

My Hands-On Review of the KX-TGD610

I tested the KX-TGD610 before it left Amazon, from the point of view of a senior or caregiver who wants a fuss-free cordless phone. Here’s what I found. The video shows it in use.

Boost Volume and Call Clarity: Inside the Panasonic KX-TGD610B Senior Cordless Phone

The 610’s ringer went as high as 90 decibels, a help for anyone with hearing difficulties.

Its 1.8 inch backlit display showed call details in big, bold text. The ringer had six volume settings up to 90 decibels, and I could hear it clearly from distant rooms, even with loud music playing.

Noise reduction noticeably cut background noise during calls, and a voice equalizer and clarity booster made callers easier to understand.

The menus were easy to navigate, with clear wording and high-contrast text, and settings like ringer volume were all under one “Settings” option. The handset locator made the phone beep loudly, so finding a misplaced handset took seconds. It ran up to 10 hours of talk time and 5 days on standby per charge.

Conclusion: An Easy Cordless Phone for Seniors

The KX-TGD610 was an easy cordless phone for seniors, and the KX-TGD810 keeps the parts that mattered most: a big, easy-to-read display, nine speed dials and a one-touch call block button. It adds stronger protection against robocalls and one-ring scams.

If your parent still relies on a landline and gets a lot of junk calls, it’s a good fit. Set up the speed dials together, and block the worst callers in the first week.
